Coral reefs and most rainforests share two things in common. Great biodiversity and the threat from destruction by man. With this web site, I want to share some of what I have seen and experianced in these environments. It is drawn from extensive work in SE Asia, Central and South America, and the Carribbean.

North Sulawesi reefs, feature heavily in the reef pages of this website. Coastal areas on the northern shore have both reefs, drop-offs and muddly areas. in the short distance to Bunaken a deep sea trench reaches 1.5km. Extensive healthy, current swept reefs surround the islands. Current swirls keep both plankton and fish larvae close to islands like Bangka. To the south of the peninusula different types of mud bottoms predominate, though there are some reefs. This leads to high biodiversity e.g. nearly 40 different Butterfly Fish in Bunaken Bay.
